Q: What happened to all of my mail, appointments, etc?

A: All email, calendars and contacts have been migrated from GroupWise to Gmail. If you believe something is missing from your account that should have migrated, please contact the Help Desk and let us know.

Q: What was migrated? Have I lost anything?

A: Nearly everything has been migrated including:

  • All Emails in your account including all cabinet folders, sent items, and any other folders you may have.
  • All Emails in your archive, if you have one
  • All personal contacts and “Frequent Contacts”
  • All calendar appointments
  • All calendar notes (they become all day appointments)
  • Your signature
  • Most filtering and vacation rules
  • Proxy rights to user accounts and calendars
  • Shared rights to calendars
  • The District Global Contact List

What wont be migrated:

  • Things left in your Trash
  • Some types of images in your signature
  • The colors of your calendars (you can set them again in Google Calendar)
  • Junk mail and Blocked sender settings (you likely wont need them)
  • Rights to shared contacts
  • Custom message categories

Q: Do I have to stop using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)?

A: Absolutely not. You can still use these programs as you always have. Use of Google’s productivity apps is completely optional. Google Apps does have some awesome collaboration features that work very well with Haiku and allow easy document sharing and collaboration with students and staff.

Q: What help will be available?

A: We have multiple options available:

  • Use our HUSD IT Knowledgebase for technical information
  • View our Haiku Google Apps training site for more detailed instructions and training.
  • Attend training. PDA will have future training available over the course of the 2014-15 school year.
  • Contact the Technology Help Desk by phone at x5580.

Q: What are the benefits of Google Apps?

A: Moving to Google Apps will dramatically increase the level of service we can offer - more storage space, reliability and functionality - without incurring any additional costs. Also, as a web-based service it works more consistently across different platforms and devices.

This change will also give staff and students access to more advanced web-based collaboration services, such as Google Docs (allowing multiple users to create, share, and edit documents, spreadsheets and slide presentations in real time). Google Apps offers 30GB of storage per user, far more than what we can currently offer staff and students.
